Catherine Jones - Biography
After completing her Bachelor of Music degree on Modern cello with first class honours at The University of Western Australia, Catherine was subsequently awarded a Postgraduate scholarship to study Baroque Cello at the Royal Conservatorium in The Hague. Following 4 years of specialised tuition with Jaap ter Linden, she received her qualifications in Baroque Performance practise in 1999, also winning the Conservatoriums “Nicolai” prize for the highest exam results. Since then Catherine has had a very varied and successful career, performing and recording with orchestras and chamber groups based all over Europe. Catherine is a regular Principal player with The Academy of Ancient Music, a long standing member of The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and also has many Guest Principal invitations with a variety of other well known Baroque Orchestras, such as Florilegium, La Petite Bande and Concerto Copenhagen. In the next year she will be recording for Deutsche Grammophone with the Italian orchestra Il Complesso Barocco, and has also been invited to join the new young Flemish ensemble “B’rock” as their principal cellist.
